Senator Howard Wetston

Senator Howard Wetston was formerly chair and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), Canada’s largest securities regulator. He led the OSC from 2010-2015, through a particularly turbulent period in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Senator Wetston is credited as succeeding in restructuring the OSC to create a leading regulator.

Prior to joining the OSC, Senator Wetston was Chair and CEO of Ontario Energy Board. He has also served as a Trial Judge at the Federal Court of Canada, the Director of Investigations & Research (now Commissioner of Competition) at the federal government’s Bureau of Competition Policy and as a Vice Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), recognised as the global standard setter for securities regulation.

Senator Wetston was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada in May 2016 and currently serves as Counsel at Goodmans LLP, one of Canada’s leading business law firms. He received his Queen's Counsel designation in 1990.
