Richard Hayler

Richard Hayler is a Partner at Deloitte and serves as the Lead Partner for Disputes in South East Asia, specialising in valuation, financial and accounting issues in contentious matters and challenging commercial situations.

He is also a member of Adjunct Faculty at Singapore Management University and is a regular public speaker in South East Asia. Richard was previously a Senior Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Economic and Financial Consulting division and member of the local subsidiary Board.

In addition to commercial work Richard has been appointed more than twenty times as both a valuation and accounting expert witness/determiner and has testified in arbitrations and court. He has been recognised in Who’s Who Legal for Asset Recovery, Quantum of Damages, Forensic Accounting, Arbitration Expert Witness and Investigations, in which he is described as “an eminent practitioner in the region and stands out as for his ‘excellent valuation work’”, “a well-known figure in the Singaporean market, and is recognised as a top-tier accounting expert in the region”, "a rising star in the world of expert witnesses" and “an outstanding expert witness”.

Richard has led, managed or consulted on a diverse array of issues including valuation, M&A issues, financial instruments and markets, loss of profits, shareholder and contractual disputes, accounting treatment and irregularities, financial implications of contractual terms, patent infringement and royalty rates, market manipulation, alleged misappropriation, asset tracing and fraud investigations.

Richard’s litigation and arbitration case experience includes the U.K. High Court, Singapore High Court, Singapore International Commercial Court, Tokyo District Court, Cayman Grand Court, Australian Federal Courts and various arbitral tribunals under ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and SIAC rules.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Richard is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) Chartered Accountant and ISCA Financial Forensic Professional (FFP). He also holds a first-class honours degree in Biochemistry with Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Bristol University and a Diploma with distinction in Company Direction from the IoD.

In 2015, Richard was appointed to the Singapore International Mediation Centre’s first Panel of Experts for Accountancy. He has also sat on the Board of Directors of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Singapore since 2012 and holds the office of Honorary Treasurer.
