Financial Instruments Board
Raj Brar
Head of Division, Bank of England Prudential Regulatory Authority

Ragveer Brar leads the Valuation & Controls Team at the Prudential Regulation Authority, part of the Bank of England. Raj is also a member of the ICAEW’s Valuation Group Committee.

Originally qualifying as a chartered accountant with PwC, Raj has also worked at HSBC, and Lehman Brothers before becoming a Technical Specialist in the Market Risk Team for the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) in 2005.

Raj founded the FSA’s Valuations & Product Control Team to build the regulatory capacity to challenge firms’ valuations and controls, including the investigation of rogue trader incidents. Raj’s remit was expanded to include Internal Audit, and the general control environment around trading businesses, including Front Office controls, which lead to him taking up his current position. The prudential regulation function of the FSA transferred to the Bank of England in 2013 as part of changes to UK regulation.
