The IVSC has appointed Howard Wetston and Tom Seidenstein to its Board of Trustees.

Howard Wetston brings a wealth of knowledge of financial regulation and policy-setting to the IVSC. Mr. Wetston was formerly chair and CEO of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), Canada’s largest securities regulator. He led the OSC from 2010-2015, through a particularly turbulent period in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Mr. Wetston is credited as succeeding in restructuring the OSC to create a leading regulator.

Prior to joining the OSC, Mr. Wetston was Chair and CEO of Ontario Energy Board.  He has also served as a Trial Judge at the Federal Court of Canada, the Director of Investigations & Research (now Commissioner of Competition) at the federal government’s Bureau of Competition Policy and as a Vice Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), recognised as the global standard setter for securities regulation.

Mr. Wetston currently serves as Counsel at Goodmans LLP, one of Canada’s leading business law firms. He received his Queen's Counsel designation in 1990.

Tom Seidenstein will bring considerable experience in setting financial standards and senior leadership of international organisations. Mr. Seidenstein is currently Vice President for Financial Markets and Policy Research in the Economic and Strategic Research Group at Fannie Mae. His team leads the company’s annual strategic planning process, generates market insights and research, and assesses the impact of proposed policy and legislation.

Prior to joining Fannie Mae, Mr. Seidenstein was Chief Operating Officer at the IFRS Foundation, the London-based body responsible for developing International Financial Reporting Standards. Whilst there, he managed key policy and regulatory relationships for the organisation and established the financing mechanism to support its operations.

Sir David Tweedie, Chairman of the IVSC, said: “We are very pleased to be welcoming Howard and Tom to the IVSC. They bring with them enormous specialist knowledge and experience of operating on an international level.

“Their appointments add considerable expertise to the IVSC in its mission to develop high quality international valuation standards which underpin consistency, transparency and confidence in valuations across the world.”
